1st Annual Composition Competition
The Ligetisplit Ensemble is proud to announce its first composition competition. This year, the orchestration will be based off of Pierre Boulez’s Le marteau sans maître. The top three winners will be featured in concert with Le marteau sans maître and performed by The Ligetisplit Ensemble on their final 2008-2009 concert at the prestigious Peabody Institute in Baltimore, Maryland.
Prizes:
1st Place: $300, Performance and Live Recording by The Ligetisplit Ensemble
2nd Place: $150 Performance and Live Recording by The Ligetisplit Ensemble
3rd Place: $75, Performance and Live Recording by The Ligetisplit Ensemble
Requirements:
Entries must be original work of the composer.
Orchestration
-mezzo soprano
-alto flute (alternative instrument: flute or piccolo)
-viola
-guitar (nylon string)
-percussion (vibraphone and xylorimba are encouraged, but any percussion instruments not to exceed 2 performers are possible)
-live electronics (optional)
*other instrumental combinations are possible upon approval
Style/Genre
Any style and genre is accepted.
Age/Time Limit
Work must be composed in the 21st century
There is no limit to age or nationality
Work must be no longer than 10 minutes
Submission
Three copies of the score (without composer’s name), entry form, and fee must be postmarked no later than March 13th, 2009. A recording or midi version is highly encouraged. Please send a self-addressed stamped envelope to have material returned. If the composer is using copyrighted text, authorization of use must be presented.

All decisions of the Judges are final. The Ligetisplit Ensemble reserves the right not to award any first, second or third place.
